Returning First World War servicemen were denied land promised to them.

The theme of this year’s @BookWeekScot is “rebels” On the peatlands returning First World War servicemen and their families were denied land promised to them. In a series of ‘land raids’ they secured the crofts promised to them, this memorial at Gress, Isle of Lewis celebrates their victory.
